Hearts of Gold

Sometimes life is full of surprises. I've always had a strong desire to learn gold work embroidery. The two past sundays, my dream came through (true?). A Laotian prince, master embroiderer and artist was in Montreal to teach two afternoon classes. I was delighted to finally be able to play with some precious threads of gold. As Therese de Dillmont writes in Encyclopédie des ouvrages de dames, gold work wins the first place in terms of embroidery techniques.
I learned a few stitches and started a miniature project. The result is very "amateur" (could it be otherwise?... it takes at least ten years to become a master embroiderer), but I'm hooked. I love the philosophy of laotian embroidery. Just as an example: always start an animal by embroidering the eyes of the beast. If you don't do so, it won't have a soul and your embroidery will be meaningless... So be aware!

It's my very last post till I return from P.E.I., august 13. Birds, bees, lobsters, I'm coming and I will look right through your shiny eyes to see what's in your heart!

(as always, sorry for my "terrifying" english...)
